Accommodation

Homestays

New Zealand families are warm, friendly and welcoming. They enjoy meeting people from different countries and cultures and will welcome you into their family as one of their own. Staying with a homestay family will allow you to experience New Zealand culture, broaden your experiences, make friends and practice English.

English Language Matters only registers the best homestay families for its students. All registered host families are interviewed and recommended, and are confirmed following a police check for student safety. All host families are expected to know and follow the NZ Code of Practice for the pastoral care of international students.

Code of Practice: English Language Matters is bound by the NZ Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. For more information you can visit the New Zealand Ministry of Education.

Each homestay is chosen for its clean, warm, supportive, family environment. We also aim to match the needs of students with the appropriate homestay family wherever possible. The majority of our students book a homestay for the support a host family offers. Also, the experience of everyday conversation with an English-speaking host family will improve your English language skills. However, if you find your homestay is not suitable, we are more than happy to discuss this with you and to organise alternative accommodation if required.
