Letter to Students 9th August 2007Dear Reader What a glorious morning it is! Did you see the beautiful sunrise this morning? I love days like today, when the harbour is as still as a millpond, and the birds are singing in the trees. Days like this I want to stay at home and enjoy our peaceful garden. However, I love teaching and being with you as well! What is your favourite way to spend the day?
Last night, I wanted to write to you, but a former student visited us with her family. Last year, two fifteen year Dutch girls came to study at our school and stay in our home. One of the girls, Annelle, really loved her time with us, and returned to Holland after five weeks of study and fun. We kept in touch through email, but we didn’t know that she was very restless when she returned, and didn’t want to study at high school. She was very clever and was two years younger than her peers. Annelle only wanted to come back to Dunedin and continue life here. When she lived with us, she used chopsticks every day because I always eat with chopsticks. When she went back to Holland, she made her family eat with chopsticks as well! After one year, she has returned to see us with her mother, father and brother, and I made a big dinner. Her uncle and aunt, who live in Dunedin, also came for dinner so we had a big family around the table. I love such evenings, although I woke up feeling a little tired.
I enjoyed teaching you on Monday, and I enjoyed talking about my family. I am so lucky to have seven children and five grandchildren, and we see each other often. As I told you, my father died a year ago, and I was very close to him. I really miss him, but I know he still looks over me. I have very happy memories to keep forever. Enjoy each day, and I look forward to hearing from you.
