November, 2009 Dear Reader The end of the year is quickly approaching as we begin to think about the Christmas season just around the corner. However, we still have a lot of positive work to do at school, working with students sitting IELTS, FCE, TOEFL, or working hard to improve their English for work, high school or generally living in Dunedin. November 16th marks the beginning of our one month TESOL course, on which ten trainees will work alongside our experienced teachers to learn how to effectively work with speakers of other languages who want to become proficient in English. We have developed an intensive training programme which incorporates the theory into classroom practice, with the trainees working with our students on a one to one basis, as well as taking lessons in classes after school. This gives students extra free study time and helps the trainees to have first hand experience in teaching. This year, we have celebrated the success of students in their IELTS, KET, PET, TOEFL and FCE examinations, and continue to enjoy students from a wide range of nationalities. Our website has been revamped by Ken France and Alisa Khrisanapant, and we are excited by the new look they have brought to the pages. Sharron will continue to post her letters so that readers can not only keep up with the news of Sharron and the school, but also feel encouraged to write back to her. She welcomes all correspondence and will reply as soon as she can. We all hope you have a wonderful last two months of 2009, and are looking forward to the special festive season which means so much to us at English Language Matters.
